A Modern Linear Fireplace Makes a Room Feel Colder Than No Fireplace at All
Interiors · Temperature Index
of temperature verdicts on rooms with a modern linear fireplace said “too cold”
Source: Statwren, The Cold Room Problem (2026). Share of “too cold” among too-cold and cosy verdicts, homestratosphere.com readers, Feb 19 to Sep 22, 2026. Verdicts: linear 49, none 75, stone 88, traditional 52.
When readers rejected a room, “too cold” was their most common complaint. The Temperature Index measures it directly: of all the too-cold and cosy verdicts a feature collected, what share said cold.
Fireplaces were the surprise. Stone and traditional fireplaces sit well on the cosy side. A sleek linear gas fireplace landed at 79.6%, colder than a room with no fireplace at all, and its interval (66 to 89) does not overlap the others.
Samples here are in the dozens per fireplace type, so read the exact figures as indicative. The gap between linear and the rest is large.
