Natural Stone Walkways Beat Brick by 37 Points on Curb Appeal
Exteriors · Same-article Preference Index
Preference Index for natural stone versus brick walkways (100 = average)
Source: Statwren, Curb Appeal (2026). Positive reactions per view compared with other exterior images in the same article, homestratosphere.com, Aug 30 to Oct 8, 2026. 3,134 exterior images, ~1.17M views. 95% intervals: stone 102 to 118; brick 59 to 96.
Each house exterior image was compared only with the other exterior images in its own article, so a popular article cannot flatter a feature. On that fair comparison, natural stone walkways land clearly above average and brick walkways clearly below.
Full front porches and black or charcoal roofs also come out ahead; grey roofs fall just short of average. Some first-pass “winners” vanish entirely under the fair comparison: rectangular pools went from 287 to 105.
Readers also told us what they want: 59% would choose a wraparound porch and 53% a bold-coloured front door.
